The island of Curacao is part of the Netherlands community, being a fairly highly developed state of the southern Caribbean. Curacao is of volcanic origin, so its coastline is heavily indented. The island is a global offshore zone, so it attracts numerous foreign investments, in addition, oil refining and tourism are very developed here. The main city of the country is Willemstadt, it is built in the traditional Dutch style with cute houses of different colors, a harbor and a small canal dividing the city.

Tours to Curacao - what to see?

It is best to start exploring the island from Willemstadt, which is located in the natural bay of the same name. The buildings located along the canal and harbor are very reminiscent of the Netherlands, and the center of the city is occupied by Fort Amsterdam, from which the construction of the city actually began. The fort was built in the 17th century and is now included in the list of UNESCO cultural heritage sites.

The capital is also home to the famous Senior & Company Liqueur Distillery, which has been producing the world-famous blue liqueur Curacao since 1896. The winery produces four types of this drink, receiving about 20,000 gallons per week.

The main attraction of Curacao is its unique nature. The entire island is covered with dense tropical vegetation, which turns into volcanic rocks in the northern part of the island, and the coastline is framed by very beautiful, but not large coral reefs. During your vacation in Curacao, you should visit the Christoffel National Park, home to the rare white-tailed deer, there are populations of various birds, several species of iguanas, and more. On its territory there are also several ancient caves, where petroglyphs of local Indians have been preserved to this day.

Traveling north from Christoffel, you will find yourself in a small reserve Shet-Boka. Here they protect the population of sea turtles that live in the coastal waters of Curacao. And in the Curacao aquarium you can get to know all the underwater inhabitants of the island and feed them yourself.

Interesting places to visit during a tour to Curacao will be the ostrich farm, where about 700 representatives of the largest birds on the planet live, and the Museum of Fine Arts. In the museum you can get acquainted with the works of local artists, antique furniture and Indian art.

Holidays in Curacao - what to do?

Most of the resort areas of the island are located in the southern part of the coastline, there are many beaches with small coral chips. The coral reefs themselves are very close to the shore, so diving in the local waters will be very interesting. You can dive right from the shore, there are many exotic fish and an amazing coral forest.

It is best to plan your vacation in Curacao so as to visit one of the festivals, holidays or a sailing regatta, which are held here at the world level. The main holiday of the year is the Day of Repentance, it begins on the first day of the new year and lasts until the end of February, during which time various festive processions, performances, musical performances and competitions take place on Curacao.

At the end of January, the island hosts the International Sailing Regatta, which brings together the best athletes. Also very colorful and no less interesting events on the island are the salsa and jazz festival.

Fans of active recreation can play tennis, volleyball, golf. Snorkeling and diving are very popular in Curacao, and beach holidays deserve all kinds of praise thanks to the beautiful sandy beaches and high level of service in the coastal hotels.
