Subtropical oceanic, close to continental in the interior. Average temperatures in July (winter) +10-12 C, in January (summer) +22-24 C. Precipitation is 1000-1200 mm per year, mainly in June-September.
The area east of Montevideo is an extended recreational zone, where such fashionable resorts as Atlantis, Piriápolis, Minas, Cerro Pan de Azcar, the Ila Gorriti Islands and the Ila de Lobos Nature Reserve are concentrated.
