Tailor-made journeys through Ukraine

Ukraine brings together historic cities, the Carpathian Mountains, regional cuisine and spa towns known for their mineral springs. An itinerary can connect Kyiv and Lviv before continuing to the Carpathians or the wellness resorts of Truskavets and Skhidnytsia.

During Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine, journeys can be considered only after reviewing current security conditions, official restrictions and insurance coverage. The programme must account for air-raid alerts, curfews, shelter locations and possible transport disruption.

Kyiv and its cultural heritage

Kyiv’s cultural landscape includes Saint Sophia Cathedral, the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, the historic streets of Podil, parks overlooking the Dnipro, art museums and contemporary Ukrainian dining. Saint Sophia and its related monastic buildings, together with the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, form a UNESCO World Heritage property.

Hotel selection must consider access to an appropriate shelter, backup power and practical transport connections. Opening arrangements for museums, religious buildings and other sites should be confirmed for the specific dates.

Lviv and western Ukraine

Lviv’s UNESCO-listed historic centre brings together Rynok Square, the Armenian Quarter, the Latin Cathedral, the Opera House and architecture shaped by several European traditions. The programme can include galleries, contemporary Ukrainian restaurants and visits to castles in the surrounding region when security conditions and local restrictions permit.

Two or three days provide a good introduction to the city. Lviv can then be combined with the Carpathians, Truskavets or Skhidnytsia without domestic flights.

The Carpathians and wellness resorts

Bukovel offers skiing during winter and mountain activities in the warmer months. Yaremche and Verkhovyna introduce Hutsul traditions, local crafts and Carpathian landscapes, while Truskavets and Skhidnytsia focus on mineral-water treatments, medical assessments and restorative programmes.

The choice of resort should reflect the season, standard of medical facilities, road journey, shelter provision and availability of independent power.

Season, transport and security

Spring and autumn are particularly suitable for Kyiv and Lviv. The Carpathian ski season usually extends from December to March and depends on snow conditions. Summer and early autumn suit walking routes and wellness stays.

Rail and road transport form the basis of journeys within Ukraine. While restrictions on civil aviation remain in place, international arrivals use land borders and airports in neighbouring countries.

No region can be described as completely safe. Travellers must check government advisories, alerts, curfews and the validity of their insurance immediately before departure. Some governments advise against all travel to Ukraine, which can invalidate insurance; where official advice recommends against travelling, the journey should be postponed.
