Hotel description
The name of the Amankora hotel complex is made up of two languages - Sanskrit and Bhutanese. In Sanskrit, the word "Aman" means "peace", from Bhutanese "kora" is translated as "wandering pilgrim". The hotel complex "World of Wandering Pilgrims" consists of 5 small cozy boutique hotels. Each hotel has from 8 to 29 rooms and is located in a gorge lost in the shadow of the Himalayan Mountains.
The Amankora Punakha Hotel is located in the ancient capital of Bhutan, Punakha, located in the eastern part of the country, in the valley of the same name formed by the Punakha River. The city itself is located at an altitude of 1300 m above sea level and has a mild subtropical climate, which makes the surrounding valley one of the most fertile places in the country. The main attraction of the city is the unique temple complex Palace of Great Happiness, located at the confluence of the Mo-Chu and Pho-Chu rivers. Situated next to the Punakha Dzong temple complex, the lodge is reached via a bridge over the Mo Chu River.
The lodge comprises a traditional Bhutanese farmhouse built by Her Majesty the Queen Mother as a residence to oversee the surrounding rice fields and orchards. This quaint three-storey structure, with its original wall paintings, now serves as the lodge’s combined common guest and dining area. It still features cosy seating areas and a traditional shrine room for prayer or meditation. The farmhouse courtyard is ideal for al fresco dining and lounging in the summer. Adjacent to the courtyard is a tea pavilion that was once the kitchen of the summer palace.
In addition, Amankora Punakha boasts a two-story spa with yoga/meditation rooms on the top floor with stunning views of the surrounding rice fields and two private treatment rooms, a steam room and a changing room on the ground floor. There is also an infinity pool.
The hotel has only 8 luxury rooms. All of them are located in 3 different buildings and their windows overlook fruit gardens and rice terraces. The design of the rooms follows the style of the main hotel of the Amankora complex - Paro. Minimalism, use of natural materials, and at the same time concern for maximum guest comfort - this ideology of the Aman chain is reflected in the design of the rooms of this cozy mountain hotel. The walls of the rooms are covered with panels of natural wood in calm light shades. Each room also has a Bukhari, a traditional Bhutanese wood-burning stove. The bathroom has two separate well-lit marble sinks, a large central bath, a tropical shower and a toilet. The room is also equipped with a large dressing room and a safe.
