Bedales school

The Bidales school was founded in 1893 and is one of the first schools, co-education boards in Britain. Bidales has a Memorial Library built by Ernest Gimson's architect in 1921.

The founder of J. N. Bedley School (J H Badley) conceived it as an alternative to strict private schools. He tried to keep pace with time and reformed not only the form of education, but also the curriculum: art, crafts, rural skills were reasonably balanced with academic classes, and students became self-administered with their free time.

The aim of the school is to develop children ' s education, love for learning and independent thinking.

Training in Bedales School

Enrolment in school: The basic age of enrolment is 3, 7, 8, 11, 13 and 16. Uses his own entrance examination. At least 50 scores on GCSE are required for the A-Level entry. 20 per cent of students entering A-Level attend public schools, 50 per cent go to senior classes from their own Dunhurst preparatory school (prep school Dunhurst).

Training plan: Bidales School offers GCSE, iGCSE, AS and A-levels. The school has developed its own system of evaluation of Bedales Assessed Courses. A-level choice of more than 25 items is proposed. Most senior students choose four subjects on AS-level, 3 on A-level + Expanded Project.

Professional area: Comprehensive career counselling is provided.

Special conditions: The performance of each student is monitored to identify those who need training assistance. Private lessons are organized for them.

Languages: In French, German and Spanish, GCSE, AS and A-level can be surrendered. Italian, Russian, Chinese and Japanese by agreement.

Information and communication technologies (ICT): It is proposed as a separate subject and as part of the curriculum for other subjects, such as coursework, use of electronic tables. There are 45 computers available to students (12 hours a day), all connected to the network, with access to e-mail and the Internet. It is also allowed to use their own laptops.

Examination results: GCSE - the majority of students receive at least an estimate of C for 8 subjects. A-level - almost all students give more than three subjects, with a final score of 310.

After graduation, 95 per cent of graduates enter universities (40% a year). 15 per cent of them choose science and engineering, 60 per cent are humanitarian.

Arts in Bedales School

Music: More than 60 per cent of students play musical instruments, you can pass an instrumental examination. There are 16 musical groups, including camera and symphony orchestras, choirs, instrumental ensembles.

Some students play the National Youth Spirit.

Drama and dance: Both can be studied in the framework of the Bedales Assessed Courses (instead of GCSE), the study of theatrical arts for the A-level and exam of the London Academy of Music and Dramaturgia (LAMDA).

Discipline in Bedales School

Any student who has been spotted in the purchase, storage and use of drugs will be assigned. Students observed smoking and drinking alcohol will be punished.
