For the first time since the beginning of the pandemic, Australia opens for tourists

Since 21 February, foreign vaccinated tourists will be allowed to enter Australia.

Non-vacinated persons are subject to compulsory 14-day hotel quarantine at their own expense upon arrival in Australia.

Foreign vaccination certificates for recognition by Australia should meet the following criteria:

  • issued by a national or local authority (state/province authority) or accredited vaccination service provider;
  • in English or accompanied by a certified translation;
  • contain at a minimum: the name and name of the traveller ' s foreign passport, the date of birth or the number of foreign passports, the name of the vaccine mark and the date of introduction of each dose or the date when the full immunization course was conducted.

Australia will also accept digital certificates and paper-based certificates.

A person is considered fully immunized if the certificate contains a vaccine approved or recognized by the Australian Administration of therapeutics (TGA). Currently approved and recognized vaccines and doses in Australia are:

- two doses with a break of at least 14 days:

  • AstraZeneca Vaxzevria
  • AstraZeneca Covishield
  • Pfizer/Biontech Comirnaty
  • Moderna Spikevax or Takeda
  • Sinovac Coronauval
  • Bharat Covaxin
  • Sinopharm BBIBP-CorV (for people aged 60 years after their arrival in Australia)*
  • Gamaleya Research Institute Sputnik V*
  • Novavax/Biocelect Nuvaxovid

- or one dose:

  • Janssen-Cilag COVID Vaccine

Australia will only consider the arriving person as fully vaccinated unless at least 7 days have elapsed since the date of the last vaccination dose.

Upon arrival in Australia, the person must confirm in the Australian travel declaration that the vaccination certificate is fully immunized and that the vaccination certificate is authentic. In providing false information, the traveller is liable under Australian law.
