Holidays in Annecy
The capital of Haute-Savoie, Annecy has managed to preserve a unique French heritage. A stroll along the lush banks of the Thiou River is enough to see the facades of buildings erected in the Middle Ages by the Counts of Geneva and later the Princes of Savoy. Beautiful houses dating back to the Renaissance, arcaded streets concealing galleries of arts and crafts, a renowned flea market (held on the last Saturday of the month), and especially its numerous bridges reveal a certain resemblance between Annecy and the Italian Venice or the Flemish Bruges.
The Palace on the Island, with its triangular shape, resembles a ship in stone, cleaving the waters for over eight centuries. It was a manor house, then a prison, and finally became a museum. The Lake Festival, held on the first Saturday of August, is world-famous. It is one of the most impressive pyrotechnic displays in Europe. Each year, it is held with a specific musical theme, which adds meaning and rhythm to the fireworks.
