Holidays in Island of Hvar
Hotels

The sunniest island of the Adriatic is the island of Hvar. Small, cozy medieval towns, numerous miniature bays and the unrivaled scent of lavender, which is felt everywhere, a mild climate and lush vegetation make this island one of the most beautiful places in the world. Due to this, regardless of the time of year, there are always many tourists here. According to scientists, the island was settled around the 4th century. Hvar was known as the Greek colony of Pharos, hence its modern name. Over the centuries, the island was alternately conquered by Catholics, Byzantines and Muslims.
The old town on Hvar was founded in 385. Today you can see the fortifying Greek walls, the palace-fortress of Petar Hektorovic with a pond and magnificent arches.
Vrbska is located at the bottom of a deep depression. Among the architectural delights of the area are the 16th century fortified church and several stone houses along both sides of the coast, connected by countless bridges. In Vrbska there is the only fishing museum on the Adriatic.
The main city of the island is Hvar. When entering the city harbor, you will see a stunningly beautiful view: a massive hill covered with all kinds of vegetation, on top of which there is a huge castle with towers. Hvar is home to the oldest public European theater, built back in 1612 on one of the city squares. The city cathedral never ceases to amaze tourists with its silent grandeur and indescribable beauty, with an original bell tower, a rich sacristy and paintings by old masters. The architectural ensemble of the cathedral is made in accordance with all the requirements of the classical Renaissance.
Undoubtedly, Hvar is not just an ordinary island in the Adriatic, where you can have a wonderful holiday both in summer and winter. Thanks to its special winter climate and lush vegetation, the island of Hvar is often called the Croatian Madeira. Of particular interest are the partially forested Pakleni - small islands with sand and pebble beaches, especially loved by nudists. For underwater fishing, the rocky seabed of Hvar is simply a godsend. In the pine forest that has grown over the beach, there is a medieval fortress, at the foot of which there is a huge botanical garden. The island's regulars are yachtsmen, who have long since chosen this place.
