Holidays in Candy
On the economic situation, the city of Candy ranks second in Sri Lanka after Colombo. In the hills, Kandy, a former capital of Sri Lanka, until 1815, is still considered a cultural and religious centre of the country.
The name of the town of Maha Nuwar is the Great City. The city is founded in the Fourteenth King of Vikramabah III (1357-1375).
In 1590, when the Portuguese took over the south-west and north coast of the island, the Singaporean rulers went to the mountains and established a state with the capital in Candy. For 225 years, the State was independent and only in 1815, the English were able to take over the city. Many of the most important historical events are linked to this city, and the people of Candy still maintain the distinct culture, traditions and arts of the Singapore people.
The lake, which hosts the entire central part of the city, is extremely vibrant, and the city itself is surrounded by the waters of the Mahavel-Ganga River with shadow shores.
On the outskirts of Candy, the main sanctuary of the Holy Zouba Buddha, Dalada Maligawa, is located. The magnificent temple contains a small step decorated by gold and precious stones in which seven more steps are consistently located, the last of which is the national holy. Millions of believers come here to worship relics, and in August, she was honoured by the famous celebration of Candy Yassal Peraher.
In the suburbs of Peradium, there is the largest Royal Botanical Garden in Asia, and in Pinnavelle there are elephants.
The Holy Buddha has one of the most beautiful processes in the East, the Essal Peraher festival. Every year, before the full moon of August, the Holy Speaks to the public. There are dozens of elephants on the streets of the city, covered by bright bells and illuminations, hundreds of dancers, acrobats and musicians. Thousands of people go to the temple to see this great sight.
Candi dancers admire travellers from all over the world for the identity of movements, unusual plastic, beauty of costumes, and " fire swallowers " dancing on rocked coals are just striking viewers with their unusual art.
