Umag is a picturesque old town located near the border with Slovenia.
The historic center of the town, which has survived to this day, used to be located on a small island, which has now been annexed to the mainland. In this prosperous town, the past and the present contrast with each other: architectural structures from the times of the Illyrians, Celts, and Romans in the historic part of the town are replaced by modern buildings.
Umag is a famous sports center, where a major international tennis tournament, the Croatia Open, is held annually.
Several folklore festivals are held in Umag: the folklore festival in honor of the patron saint of Umag - St. Pelegrinus (end of May); the folklore festival in honor of Mary of the Snows (August 5), the folklore festival in Umag and the village of Sveta Marija na krasu in honor of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary (August 15).
Remains of defensive walls built in the Middle Ages have been preserved in Umag to this day. Also of interest is the Church of St. Pelegrino Martur, built in the Baroque style. The main highlight of the Church of St. Mary is the carved, unusually beautiful, painted wooden altar.
The area has a mixture of Mediterranean and Alpine climate: mild winters, during which there is practically no snow, and not very hot summers. The swimming season lasts from May to October.
The maximum number of tourists falls in August and September.

Umag is an ideal place for active recreation. Numerous hotels on the coast offer conditions for practicing such sports as tennis, football, bowling, mini golf, horse riding, cycling, yachting, windsurfing, water skiing, diving, underwater fishing.
Entertainment
Umag is a popular venue for various festivals. In the last few years, Tomato Days have been held in Umag. Solei Casino, located in the Katoro tourist complex, is open 24 hours a day and offers guests not only the opportunity to enjoy the game but also various performances. Tropicana Restaurant, located in the casino, offers exquisite dishes made from natural products.
