Excursion to Bobodur
Borobudur was built as a huge stupa made of 2,000,000 stone blocks. Its foundation is 118 m long, and the volume of the entire structure is approximately 55,000 m³. Until now, scientists have not been able to determine the exact date and duration of the construction of this temple - they assume that the temple was built in the 7th - 9th centuries. The stupa has eight tiers: the five lower ones are square, and the three upper ones are round. The shape of the mandala represents the scheme of the universe in accordance with Buddhist ideas. On the upper tier there are 72 small stupas around a large central one. Each stupa is in the shape of a bell. Inside the stupas there are 504 statues of Buddha and 1,460 bas-reliefs on religious subjects. Borobudur is still a place of pilgrimage and prayer. Pilgrims walk seven times clockwise on each level. Touching each Buddha from the stupas on the upper tier, according to beliefs, brings happiness. According to researchers, the structure can be considered a huge book for pilgrims. As they perform a ritual walk around each tier, pilgrims get acquainted with the life of Buddha and elements of his teachings depicted on rock reliefs.
Then you will have an excursion to Prambanan.
It is located 18 kilometers east of Yogyakarta. Erected in 856, the complex dedicated to the victory of the Hindu king over the Buddhist predecessor consists of eight buildings. The most famous of them is the 47-meter Lara Jonggrang temple dedicated to Shiva. All the walls of the temples are decorated with beautiful bas-reliefs depicting scenes from the Ramayana, mythical animals, heavenly trees and the god Shiva himself, creating and destroying the world. Also on the walls of the temple there is an image of the mythical bird Garuda - the national symbol of Indonesia.
Return to the hotel. Overnight stay.
Day 5
Breakfast.
Excursion to the Dieng Plateau.
The volcanic plateau, located at an altitude of 2093 meters above sea level (the average temperature here is about 18 degrees), was once sacred. Between the 8th and 19th centuries, more than 400 Hindu temples were built here, of which only eight have survived. The surrounding landscapes with the absence of crowds of tourists make it a very interesting place for walks and trekking. The main beauties of the Dieng plateau can be seen in a few hours of walking: these are colored lakes, ancient temples, smoking fumaroles, bubbling mineral springs, a volcanic crater, caves, sulfur protruding from the rocks and the highest village in Java called Sembungan.
