Hotel description

Blanket Bay is a five-star alpine lodge on the shores of Lake Wakatipu, set at the foot of the Richardson Mountains near Glenorchy. Designed in the grand tradition of classic mountain lodges, the property combines native New Zealand timber and stone, soaring beamed ceilings, expansive windows and substantial stone fireplaces to create the atmosphere of a secluded country residence in the Southern Alps. Rooms, suites, chalets and shared spaces overlook Lake Wakatipu, the Humboldt Mountains, Greenstone Valley and the surrounding peaks. Blanket Bay sits within the approximately 60,000-acre Wyuna High Country Station and provides a privileged base for exploring the Southern Lakes region. Fiordland and Mount Aspiring National Parks are only minutes away by helicopter, while experiences include Milford Sound journeys, heli-fishing, heli-skiing, golf, horse riding, hiking, jet boating and a wide range of outdoor adventures. After an active day, guests can retreat to Blanket Bay Spa, the heated outdoor pool, jacuzzi or steam rooms. Dining is a central part of the stay, with the kitchen showcasing seasonal New Zealand produce through a daily-changing five-course degustation dinner. More intimate evenings can be arranged in settings including the Wine Cave and Tasting Room. Blanket Bay brings together alpine wilderness, refined service, adventurous exploration and the character of an authentic New Zealand luxury lodge.
