Holidays in Eze
If you take Route 7 from Nice toward Menton, you'll arrive in the medieval village of Èze. Perched on sheer cliffs, it once offered excellent cover from enemies. Today, this resort town, with its houses clinging to the rocks like birds' nests, has become a worthy tourist attraction. Its streets are filled with the workshops of artists and artisans. If you climb the steps leading to the Exotic Garden, its highest point—429 meters above sea level—you'll see the entire Riviera at a glance. Incidentally, the Exotic Garden of Èze, built on the ruins of a fortress, is famous for its cacti. In good weather, you can even see Corsica from the upper terrace. The Chapel of the White Penitents, decorated with enamel images, is especially noteworthy in Èze.
At the end of July, Èze celebrates the "Festival of Old Times." Locals dress in medieval costumes and serve dishes prepared using ancient recipes.
