Travellers seeking a quieter stay may prefer a hotel away from the busiest riverfront area. Phnom Penh traffic and the location of planned visits should also be considered before booking.
The best time to visit Phnom Penh
November to February generally offers the most comfortable conditions for city sightseeing. March and April are hotter, making early morning visits and a slower midday schedule more practical.
The wetter season normally runs from May to October. Rain does not prevent a city stay, but the itinerary should remain flexible, with museums and indoor visits balanced against time outdoors.
Combining Phnom Penh with Angkor
Phnom Penh complements Angkor by adding Cambodia’s royal heritage, recent history and contemporary city life. The capital and Siem Reap can be connected by a domestic flight or an overland transfer, depending on the timing and structure of the wider itinerary.
