It is located in the central part of the South island, bordering the Marlboro region in the north, west with the West Coast region, south with the Otago region. The East Coast is washed by Pacific waters, and the South Alps Mountain Ridge is reaching the west.
Demography
The population for 2006 was estimated at 533,200 inhabitants, making Kenterbury the second largest population in New Zealand after Auckland. The city of Kraistchurch (414.0 thousand) is the largest settlement point in the region.
