According to legend, Savudrija (Salvore in Italian) received its name thanks to the son of the German king Frederico Barborossa - Otto, who, after being defeated in a naval battle, escaped off its shores in 1177. «Salvo re» – the king is saved.
Savudrija is the westernmost point of Istria and all of Croatia. A green paradise surrounded by the Adriatic Sea on three sides. Istria, and especially Savudrija, has been known as a resort since the times of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, thanks to its mild climate and healing pine air. The oldest functioning lighthouse on the Adriatic is also located here. This rich red soil nourishes vineyards whose wines are widely known, and the sea generously gives its treasures, which can be enjoyed in all Savudrija restaurants, taverns and on the tables of locals.
