Verbier occupies a sunny plateau in the Swiss canton of Valais at an altitude of approximately 1,500 metres. Skiing in the 4 Vallées

Verbier forms part of the 4 Vallées, Switzerland’s largest linked ski area, with 410 kilometres of pistes. A full-area pass provides access to the sectors of Verbier, Nendaz, Veysonnaz and Thyon. The highest point is Mont Fort at 3,330 metres, the starting point for demanding high-altitude descents.

The prepared pistes offer routes for a range of abilities, but Verbier’s defining strength is its technical terrain and long ski itineraries. Any skiing beyond the marked pistes should be arranged with a certified mountain guide after considering visibility, snow stability and avalanche conditions.

Hotels and chalets in Verbier

The five-star W Verbier stands beside the main Médran lift station, providing convenient access to the ski area together with a spa and several dining venues. The central streets of the resort are also within easy reach.

Le Chalet d’Adrien, a member of Relais & Châteaux, is positioned near the Savoleyres lift. Its smaller scale, panoramic terrace and Alpine interiors create a more intimate atmosphere. Families and groups of friends can instead select a staffed chalet, with transport, meals and daily service arranged before arrival.

Dining and resort life

Verbier offers Alpine restaurants, wine bars and contemporary European dining. The area around Médran and the streets close to Place Centrale become particularly animated after skiing. During peak weeks, restaurant tables, ski instructors and mountain guides should be reserved together with accommodation.

Summer in Verbier

In summer, the resort becomes a base for hiking, road cycling and mountain biking. Routes extend through the Val de Bagnes, across mountain pastures and towards Lac de Louvie. More experienced hikers can plan demanding journeys in the direction of the Corbassière Glacier. The annual Verbier Festival adds classical music performances to the summer programme, with dates changing each year.

When to visit

The ski season generally runs from late November until the end of April, although piste access depends on altitude and snow conditions. June to September is better suited to hiking and cycling. Five to seven nights provide time to explore the principal sectors of the 4 Vallées while leaving space for spa experiences, dining and rest.
