Holidays in Praslin Island
Praslin is one of the most beautiful Seychelles islands, also called the "Garden of Eden". Crowded beaches and secluded bays, amazing tropical nature that has preserved its pristine appearance and the richness of the underwater world - all this is the famous Praslin.
Praslin is located 37 km from Mahe. It is the second largest island of the Seychelles, its area is 26 sq. km.
What is worth visiting on Praslin Island?
Vale de Mai National Park, or May Valley - here is the largest palm grove in the Seychelles, about 7,000 trees of sea coconut palms. One of the rarest birds, the black parrot, lives in the park. Since 1983, the park has been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. The May Valley can be walked around in 2-4 hours along the laid out routes.
In the main settlement - the village of Grand Anse, you can see two ancient churches. An unusual landmark of the island are two monuments crowned with images of the fruits of the sea coconut palm, which is considered one of the main symbols of the Seychelles.
Tours to Praslin are popular with travelers who are interested in visiting a farm where black pearls are grown (its shade may vary). Pinctada margaritifera mollusks were brought to the Seychelles 10 years ago as an experiment. The mollusks have taken root well in warm waters. Tourists can visit the farm with excursions, during which they will get acquainted with the process of growing pearls.
Lazio Bay is one of the best bays located in the north of Praslin, Seychelles. It looks like a half of the moon. Lazio Bay is famous for its diving opportunities, as its underwater world is diverse and amazingly beautiful. Large-scale competitions are held here twice a year. This part of the island is perfect for a family or romantic getaway.
Curieuse Island is a small granite island (2.86 sq. km.), which has become a marine national park where turtles live.
Beach holidays on Praslin Island
There are a large number of beaches on the island. Due to the fact that Praslin Island (Seychelles) is surrounded by a coral reef, there are no big waves here. On the island you can find both crowded beaches and isolated small bays, where even in the middle of the season tourists feel alone. The most popular beaches are in the bays of Marie Louise, Lazio, Consolation, Volbert or Gold Coast, as well as in Bois de Rose, Boudin and in Kerlan Bay, where in 1999 one of the most luxurious hotels not only in Praslin, but also in the Seychelles was opened - "Lemuria Resort de Praslin", which has collected many positive reviews from tourists.
