Every year, over 30,000 people come to Tanzania to climb Kilimanjaro, the highest free-standing mountain in the world and the highest peak in Africa. Mount Kilimanjaro is a place of myth and folklore, located 325 km from the equator. Climbing Kilimanjaro does not require any technical skills or special equipment, just some fitness and determination.

Day 1 Arrive at Kilimanjaro Airport

Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport, transfer to Arusha city.

Overnight at Arusha Coffee Lodge, HB

Day 2 Departure to the base of the mountain and start of the trek

Early morning, meet your driver and depart for the base of Mount Kilimanjaro National Park. Meet your guide and porters, get a briefing and begin your unforgettable journey to the summit.

Day 3 Climb: Machame Camp - Shira Camp

  • Elevation: 12,500ft to 13,000ft

Day 5 Climb: Barranco Camp - Karanga Camp

  • Elevation: 13,000ft to 13,100ft ft
  • Distance: 5 km

Day 6 Climb: Karanga Camp - Barafu Camp

  • Elevation: 13,100 ft to 15,300 ft
  • Distance: 4 km
  • Duration: 4-5 hours

Day 7 Climb to the summit

  • Barafu Camp - summit to Kibo Hut
  • Elevation: 15,300 ft to 19,345 ft (and down to 10,000 ft)
  • Distance: 5 km ascent / 12 km descent
  • Hiking time: 7-8 hours ascent / 4-6 hours descent
  • Environment: Arctic

At Uhuru Peak, you have reached the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro and the African continent.
Faster hikers will see the sunrise from the summit.

Day 8 Descend to Base Camp

  • Moshi Camp
  • Elevation: 10,000ft to 5,400ft
  • Distance: 10km
  • Hiking Time: 3-4 hours
  • Environment: Rainforest

At the foot of the mountain, at the main gate of Kilimanjaro Park, you will be given an official certificate of having conquered the highest peak in Africa.

You will then be met by a representative and driven back to your hotel in Arusha for a short acclimatization after the climb.

Day 9-14 Zanzibar Relax

After breakfast, transfer to Arusha airport and fly to Zanzibar, where you will relax in a boutique villa from the Relais & Châteaux collection: Zanzibar White Sand Luxury Villas & Spa
