Huka Lodge is a historic luxury lodge on the banks of the Waikato River in Taupō, surrounded by 17 acres of established park-like gardens. Its story began in 1924 when Alan Pye established a simple fishermen’s camp, with white canvas tents pitched beside the trout-rich river. Over the following century, the property evolved into one of New Zealand’s most celebrated luxury retreats while preserving the character of a grand country estate. Today, the central lodge, restaurant, lounges and terraces are surrounded by manicured gardens, rolling lawns and secluded settings for private dining, many overlooking the deep turquoise waters of the Waikato River. Accommodation comprises twenty suites and two exclusive private residences, Alan Pye Cottage and Alex van Heeren Cottage. Gastronomy is central to the Huka Lodge experience: menus change daily according to the season and showcase premium New Zealand produce, while the underground wine cellar holds around 4,500 bottles. Guests can retreat to Huka Spa and its Wellness Grounds with a gym, sauna, ice contrast shower and steaming hot pool, or enjoy tennis, croquet and pétanque around the estate. The lodge’s historic connection with fly fishing remains an important part of its identity, complemented by Lake Taupō cruises, hiking, golf, mountain biking, white-water rafting, jet boating and helicopter experiences. Huka Lodge offers twenty suites and two exclusive private residences set throughout 17 acres of gardens along the Waikato River. The refreshed interiors retain the spirit of a classic country lodge while introducing a more contemporary aesthetic through rich textures, artworks and a strong connection with the surrounding landscape. Lodge Suites start at 60 m² and feature floor-to-ceiling French doors opening towards gardens, rolling lawns and the river; selected suites also include an open fireplace. Bedrooms feature gauze-draped canopy beds, custom wool throws and generous ensuite bathrooms. For greater privacy, the 325 m² Alan Pye Cottage provides two bedrooms, while the 364 m² Alex van Heeren Cottage offers four. Both private residences include expansive living areas, kitchens, outdoor spaces, pools and dramatic views towards the Waikato River, with Alex van Heeren Cottage also looking downstream towards Huka Falls. Huka Lodge welcomes children aged ten years and over.

Huka Lodge is located in Taupō in the centre of New Zealand’s North Island, on the banks of the Waikato River just upstream from Huka Falls. Taupō Airport is around a 15-minute drive away; the road journey takes approximately 3.5 hours from Auckland, five hours from Wellington and one hour from Rotorua. Road, limousine and helicopter transfers are available.
