Description
Taupo (Taupo) is a painting city on the Island of the North, located approximately 2 hours from Rotorua, on the north-eastern coast of a lake with a single name around which plains are spread at altitudes of 200 to 700 metres above sea level. The lake is elevated by existing (Ruapehu, 2,797 m, Ngaurohoe, 2,291 m) and dried (Egmond, 2517 m) volcanic.
The modern name of the city is derived from a reduction in the name of the former indigenous settlement of the country, Toupo-nui-a-Tia, which can be translated as the Tia cap. Tia, betrayed by the first Māori who was on the shores of this lake.
Forest industry and tourism are the main sectors of the city ' s economy. The city of Taupo is a popular tourist centre with a developed infrastructure. The beauty of these places attracts tourists from all over the world to Taupo.
